  6. PURPOSE
  7. =======

  9. The ECHOLIST conference centers on The International EchoList - an
  10. open repository of information submitted by moderators of electronic
  11. mail conferences.  The EchoList itself is a database of entries
  12. maintained by submitters using specially formated eMail messages.
  13. A full copy of the database is published monthly and distributed
  14. electronically as a compressed file.
  15.  
  16. This EchoMail conference serves four purposes:
  17.  
  18. The ECHOLIST conference is intended as a convenient method for people
  19. to see announcements of new and updated entries when they are posted
  20. to the database, rather than waiting until the monthly production.
  21.  
  22. The ECHOLIST conference supports submitting ECHO QUERY messages,
  23. which produce as a reply a report of the contents of the EchoList
  24. database.
  25.  
  26. The ECHOLIST conference provides a forum for questions and discussion
  27. of EchoList facilities with the author.
  28.  
  29. The ECHOLIST conference supports submitting additions, updates and
  30. deletions to the EchoList database itself.  This is of dubious value
  31. for those who wish password security on their entry, since the
  32. original submission (with it's password in plain text) would be seen
  33. by all participants.  But it's provided as an option for those who do
  34. not want or need to use NetMail.

  37. RULES
  38. =====

  40. The ECHOLIST conference is the property of Mike Fuchs and is
  41. associated only with the International EchoList.  No other person or
  42. organization has any authority whatsoever concerning the content or
  43. operation of this conference.  By linking your system to this
  44. conference you agree to abide by my rules concerning access and use
  45. of this conference.  If you don't agree, don't link-in.
  46.  
  47. The primary purpose of the ECHOLIST conference is advertising for the
  48. entries submitted to The EchoList, and as such is primarily a
  49. read-only conference.
  50.  
  51. The only exception to the read-only status of the conference is to
  52. allow entry of ECHO QUERY, MOD UPD and MOD DEL messages, and to
  53. support questions concerning The EchoList itself to be addressed to
  54. the publisher.
  55.  
  56. The ECHOLIST conference is NOT for discussion of the flow or
  57. administration of EchoMail (refer to the ZEC conference for your
  58. Zone), it is NOT for discussion of the internal operation of EchoMail
  59. conferencing (refer to the MODERATOR conference), and it is NOT for
  60. the discussion of finding and establishing EchoMail links (refer to
  61. the ECHO_REQ conference).

  63. Off-topic messages are to be ignored by all participants.  Replies to
  64. undesired messages just compound the problem.  The moderator will
  65. take whatever action is appropriate.  
  66.  
  67. The sole authority for determining what is appropriate topic for
  68. discussion, and for establishing and enforcing the rules in this
  69. conference is the moderator.
